In December of 2023 I started working on the design of a jazz club.
After working with a graphic designer to create a brand, the first time owner had reached out for help building out the 1500 sf commercial space he had signed in Manhattan.
It had previously been a restaurant and prior to that, a spa:
existing space
I began by making timelines, budget spreadsheets, and floorplan layouts and spent the next six months leading a full renovation of the space.
The branding , created by graphic designer Isobel Connelly, was anachronistic - a delicate mix of retro nostalgia and new age futurism.
My goal was to match the interiors accordingly.
We began demolition in January 2024.
I started by having the contractors remove the laminate flooring and all of the fake wall coverings.
We saved large sums of money by salvaging the original wood floors, replacing damaged areas with stained plywood, and several other creative design solutions.
The buildout took 6 months.
